Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili met representatives of the various MIA units and departments. Minister awarded policemen for courage, professionalism and devotion demonstrated in the line of duty.
Before the award ceremony Giorgi Mgebrishvili paid tribute to the police officers Gela Lamazoshvili and Maia Javakhishvili killed in Telavi on December 30.
Minister thanked police officers for their service and stated: "In the recent period everyone saw how hard it is to be a police officer, to preserve safety of the civilians and be ready for the sacrifice. That’s why in a number of countries being a police officer is equaled to heroism. I want the public to know that the spirit of our system is saturated with such feeling, and these people deserve more respect and support! Today only a small part of our police officers are present. In fact there are more officers like you - people who stand on guard for ensuring our safety and lives every minute, day or night and in all types of weather” – stated Minister.
Minister awarded 12 police officers with medals for courage: police captain Ioseb Tsevelidze, poice senior Lieutenant Elizbar Patarkacishvili, Patrol-inspector Giorgi Bukia, Rescuer Koba Terterashvili, Border Guard Giorgi Inasaridze, police major Maia Felishvili and patrol officers: Avtandil Ebanoidze, Davit Tchanturia, Giorgi Kopaliani, Beka Burduli, Teimuraz Asanidze and Koba Tchulikhadze.
Minister also awarded 57 Police officers with certificates of appreciation: “I would like to specially thank those who are present here for the exceptional professionalism and devotion shown in the line of duty”-stated Minister.
Giorgi Mgebrishvili wished success and promised his support to the police officers.
