Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mghebrishvili and the US Ambassador Ian Kelly attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new building of N7 Border Sector “Sulda” of N2 Border Police Division (Akhaltsikhe).
“Developing the Border Police of Georgia, enhancing its law-enforcement capacity, equipping with modern technologies and reconstructing its infrastructure are top priorities for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as secure borders are essential for the country’s security.
I want to express my gratitude towards our strategic partner the USA, its Embassy to Georgia and Defence and Threat Redaction Agency. Highly important projects are implemented in the Border Police of Georgia through their assistance”, - declared Giorgi Mghebrishvili.
Acting head of the border Agency Levan Tchabukiani alongside the representatives of the US Embassy to Georgia, DTRA Officials and other distinguished guests attended the ribbon cutting ceremony.
This new facility, constructed with the financial support from the DTRA is fully in line with the modern standards. The sector covers the 15 km segment of the Georgian-Turkish State Border.
After the ribbon cutting ceremony the distinguished guests viewed a border guard’s equipment and transportation means, which had been handed over from the Defence and Threat Redaction Agency.
With the support of the US DTRA extensive work has been done to enhance border security in Georgia. The partnership was focused on renovation and reconstruction of border sectors, the administrative building of K9 Division and maritime infrastructure, as well as equipping Georgian borders with Border Operation Monitoring System and improving its ship repairing capabilities.
