First interagency working visit was held at the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The meeting was attended by the Deputy Ministers of Internal Affairs- Nino Javakhadze and Natia Mezvrishvili as well as Deputy Ministers of Education and Science –Lia Gigauri and Teimuraz Murghulia, First Deputy Minister of Justice, Aleksandre Baramidze, First Deputy Chief Prosecutor of Georgia, Giorgi Gogadze and representatives of the mentioned agencies.
Within the frames of the meeting sides discussed reforms implemented in juvenile justice and existing challenges in this sphere. Special emphasis was made on continuation of juvenile crime prevention program and enhancement of this direction, activation of social and rehabilitation programs for juveniles and involvement of other government agencies, non-governmental sector and international organizations in the mentioned process.
Within the frames of the meeting, the agreement on short-term and long-term ways to overcome existing challenges was reached. Within the scope of the short-term action plan, it was agreed that efficiency of the service of resource officers at educational institutions will be evaluated and its role will be further enhanced.
In the shortest period the second meeting of the interagency group will be held, where meeting participants will present their visions on how to strengthen the operation of resource officers at educational institutions and how to coordinate their activities with Patrol Police.
