A meeting of the steering committee of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the World Customs Organization (WCO) joint project - Container Control Programme (CCP) was held at the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The meeting was chaired by Naida Chamilova- coordinator of the Black Sea and South Caucasus regions of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Finance of Georgia and the Customs Department.
The objective of the meeting was to discuss the program's current state of affairs, achievements, and challenges.
It should be noted, that within the framework of the program, a joint unit has been established, which uses modern technologies and specialized methods to seize and track substances containing drugs, firearms, weapons of mass destruction, and nuclear materials arriving from countries with elevated risks. Along with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance and the Customs Department are the beneficiaries of the project.
The „Container Control Programme (CCP)” in Georgia has been implemented since 2012 as part of a cooperative endeavor between the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the World Customs Organization (WCO).
