MIA patrol police officers for the verification purposes stopped the car late at night in Anapa Division street, Tbilisi driven by Buba K (D.o.B.: 1985).
Alco-test revealed that the driver was under alcoholic influence. After the police officers completed preventive inspection, the car's passengers – Muraz S (D.o.B.: 1971) and Kakhaber D (D.o.B.: 1976) verbally abused the law enforcers. Despite repeated calls from the officers, they did not obey their legitimate demands; consequently both of them were detained by the patrol police officers under the article 173 of the Administrative Violations Code (non-compliance with the lawful order or demand of a law-enforcement officer or verbal abuse of and/or any other abusive act against such person while such person is in the line of duty).
As for the fact of damaging the car, the investigation was launched under the article 187 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (damage or destruction of property) immediately upon expressing the claim from the part of its owner.
In addition, we would like to mention that the law enforcers were not aware of their political affiliation, though we stress that no individual can be exempted from a legal responsibility for his/her political affiliation.
Law enforcement officers act in accordance with the law. Stopping and inspection of vehicles by patrol police officers is carried out periodically for the preventive purposes and aims to ensure traffic safety and prevention of a possible crime.
Police is an apolitical authority; therefore, we call upon all interested persons to refrain from making political statements and insinuations aiming at discrediting this agency.
