Ministry of Internal Affairs actively continues the fight against violence, including domestic violence and reiterates its readiness to conduct various activities in this direction with all available resources and support from the society.
In order to fight more effectively with the mentioned problem 13 cases on murders committed as a result of domestic violence were studied. It is notable that out of 13 cases police was summoned only in one of them. Out of murderers, four of them were previously convicted: two persons for the attempted murder, one for hooliganism and causing bodily injury and another one for hooliganism and drug related crime. For the MIA employees trainings are planned to be held in two phases.
From all regions of Georgia 452 district police inspectors will undergo special courses. From each police station two police officers will be chosen to undergo training. During first phase of the training 92 district inspectors from 42 police stations will be trained in Tbilisi. Second phase of the training will be held for 360 district inspectors from 180 police stations. Inspectors will be assigned to make response not only on police notifications but to visit families occasionally, prone to violence and report regarding the situation with general analyses.In accordance with amendments to the order N1079 (on restrictive order and order procedures) issued by the Minister of Internal Affairs, district inspectors and senior inspector-investigators will be authorized to write restrictive order. Until now, district inspector-investigators had no operational authority on territories under the control of Patrol Police Department. With the aim of close co-operation with the society, Ministry of Internal Affairs continues to hold meetings with representatives of non-governmental and international organizations on the regular basis. In order to raise awareness among society informational campaign is panned to be held against domestic violence. Within the frames of the campaign informative videos will be filmed and aired by TV companies, radios and social network.
