It has been two days since the employees of various units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have been mobilized in Rioni gorge to resume the preparatory work process for Namakhvani Hydro Power Plant to ensure safety and and rule of law. In addition to the mentioned, relevant police infrastructure is on site as well.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs clarifies once again that the rumor alleging that the police applied special equipment to suppress the communication signal in the Rioni gorge, is a complete falsehood.
Statement issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs on April 3 of the current year also clarified that a special vehicle located in the Rioni Valley will ensure the proper operation of the radio communication.
The agency would like to note once again that the police infrastructure on site is an internal radio communication amplifier mechanism that has nothing to do with cellular and telephone communication, it is used for the proper operation of radio communication between police sub-units. The mentioned police infrastructure was located in Rioni gorge due to difficult terrain location and complicated communication.
As for the restriction of movement of citizens in the Rioni Gorge, we clarify once again that due to security measures taken on site, (in accordance with Articles 25 and 26 of the Law of Georgia on Police) restrictions on movement in certain directions remain in force to avoid impending threats and further escalation of the situation.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs calls on citizens to act in full compliance of the law on freedom of expression and adhere to the rightful demands of the police.
Herewith, Ministry of Internal Affairs would like to emphasize that as the agency responsible for public safety, rule of law and order,will ensure the freedom of expression of every citizen, not exceeding the limits allowed by law.
