On January 10, VII police station of Vake-Saburtalo police division under Tbilisi Police Department launched investigation regarding the fact of armed robbery, perpetrated against the citizen of India G.M. –article 179 envisaged by the Criminal Code.
According to the victim, he was followed by the offender at the “Microfinance Organization Giro Credit” located on Alexandre Kazbegi Avenue, where he converted 100 USD into Georgian GEL. While leaving the facility, offender demanded cash from G.M under the pressure of the knife, appropriated cash and fled from the place of crime.
The victim reported the police regarding the incident. Law enforcers made quick response as soon as the report was received. During the inquiry, victim described the offender in details and noted that he was followed by the offender from the micro finance organization.
Police contacted director of micro finance organization “Giro Credit” G.G. on the phone and requested to extract video records from the surveillance cameras within the frames of the ongoing investigation, on which policemen received negative answer.
Later, law enforcers visited G.G. in his apartment to better inform him regarding the incident. Being under the influence of the alcohol, G.G. met policemen at the entrance hall of the building, started conversation in a cynical manner and refused to hand over video materials. Policemen submitted prosecutor’s order “On the request of the information stored in the computer system based on the urgent necessity” and explained that their request was in compliance with the law. Law enforcers also clarified that, in case of the complaint on the investigative activities G.G. could appeal to the prosecutor’s office or file charges at the court.
Despite the above mentioned, G.G. did not obey to the legal demand of the law enforcers and hindered the investigative activities. G.G. and his family members behaved aggressively towards policemen and verbally insulted them. Regardless of the repeated calls to stop aggressive and offensive actions, G.G. and his family members refused to obey the rightful demand of the law enforcers.
Taking into consideration the above mentioned, officers of VII police station of Vake-Saburtalo police division took G.G. under administrative detention; under the article 173 envisaged by the Code of the Administrative Offences and took him to the police station. Detainee was tested on alcohol at the police building, which revealed that he was under the influence of spirits. After the relevant procedures G.G. was placed at temporary detention isolator. On the second day he was transferred to Tbilisi city court, where administrative proceedings are underway against him.
Family members of G.G. handed over video materials to the investigation, which made it possible to identify the offender. At this moment, intensive investigative activities are underway in order to locate and detain the offender.
Ministry of Internal Affairs once again would like to note that, timely collection of the evidences is crucial in order to make crime prevention and conduct operative-investigative activities. Ministry calls on citizens to cooperate with investigation and not to hinder the police fight against crime.
