In order to proceed elections in peaceful and safe environment in accordance with the Order of the Minister of the Internal Affairs of Georgia law enforcement groups carried out relevant measures within the territories under their influence.
During the elections as well as after the end of voting procedure a number of incidents took place in several regions of Georgia on which law enforcements reacted promptly and adequately.
More precisely, in the village Kizil-Ajlo of Marneui region the supporters of the Party “United National Movement” and the Bloc “Paata Burchuladze-State for People” attempted to invade into the N48 polling station and steal the ballot box. The law enforcements who were mobilized at the station did not allow this to happen which resulted in increased aggression by the supporters of both parties and they started to throw stones towards the police officers. As a result of the clash several law enforcements, including the head of Marneuli police, were injured. The aggressors failed to steal the ballot box. After the involvement of law enforcements the situation got back to normal. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has launched an investigation into the Article 1621 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
In the village Jikhashkari of Zugdidi region, Samegrelo, a group of people invaded into the N79 polling station. They broke the ballot box, smashed the windows, damaged the inventor and stole the mobile phones belonging to the observers. One of the aggressors physically insulted one of the international observers. The medical assistance was provided to the victim. His/her health condition is satisfactory. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia launched an investigation into the Article 1621 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (violence or violent menace in the polling station, place of election commission or their adjacent territories, or pre-election agitation or during the pre-election campaign) and into the Article 163 (interference with the work of election or referendum commission). The organizer of the disorder is identified and detained by the law enforcements and also persons involved. The relevant investigative measure have been taken against him. Operative-investigative measure have been carried out in order to identify and detain other persons involved.
Unknown persons also invaded polling station №108 of the village Jikhashkari, broke the ballot box, smashed the windows and damaged the inventor. The investigation is in progress under Article 163 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
The incident took place in Kutaisi, in the adjacent territory of the polling station №90, located on Sulkhan-Saba Avenue, where supporters of two parties clashed each other.
Based on the existing information, during the clash, equipment belonging to TV channel was damaged. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia launched investigation under Article 187 (1) of the Criminal Code of Georgia. Within the investigation, witnesses are being interviewed.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia will adequately react to any kind of violation of law in the future and will take measures envisaged by the law in order to ensure safety.
