27 employees of the Medical Service of the Temporary Detention Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have been trained for their professional development at Hotel "Chateau Mere" in Telavi on April 13-16, this year.
The training is organized by the Council of Europe. Participants of the training got familiarized with the issues of prevention of self-injury and learned the procedure of documenting the injuries of the person confined to the isolator according to the Istanbul Protocol.
The purpose of the training is to bring the standards implemented in the temporary detention isolators into accord with the European standards of human rights.
The training is being held within the framework of the project of the Council of Europe - "Improving Mental Health Care of Persons Detained in Georgia". The project started in January of this year and will last for 18 months. It is the third phase of the project launched by the Council of Europe and the European Union in 2013. Number of measures has been implemented within the scopes of the first two phases in the temporary detention facilities in order to improve the situation, including retraining of the employees and medical personnel of the isolator in several stages, as well as the development of legal acts, paying study visits, shooting training films and other activities.
In the frames of the ongoing project (third phase), there are planned several other activities to support the isolators, in particular, retraining of physicians of all isolators, organizing trainers' training for the psychologists of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and study visit.
