The delegation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia headed by the Deputy Minister - Giorgi Butkhuzi, paid a working visit to the Republic of Latvia.
The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia - Giorgi Butkhuzi and members of the delegation: Head of MIA Border Police - Nikoloz Sharadze, Director of the Patrol Police Department – Vazha Siradze, Director of the Migration Department – Mikheil Chikvaidze and other officials held important official meetings in Latvia.
Within the framework of the visit, Giorgi Butkhuzi held a meeting with his Latvian colleague - State Secretary of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Latvia - Dimitrijs Trofimovs.
Members of the delegation held a meeting with the Chief of the State Border Guard - Guntis Pujāts, also visited border checkpoint and administrative boundary line of the Republic of Latvia, where they got acquainted with the work specifics of the State Border Guard of the Republic of Latvia.
During the visit, the Head of the Border Police of Georgia, Nikoloz Sharadze, and the Chief of the State Border Guard, Guntis Pujāts signed a memorandum under which in the nearest future a helicopter will be gifted to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia from the Republic of Latvia.
Transportation of the helicopter to Georgia, as well as relevant trainings for pilots and engineers will be conducted under the project of International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) - “Strengthening of the Georgian Border Police (GBP) capacities for green and sea border surveillance”.
Within the framework of the same visit, 2022 cooperation plan in the field of border protection was also signed between the parties. From the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, the document was signed by the Heads of the Border Police, the Patrol Police Department and the Migration Department, and from Latvian side - the Chief of the State Border Guard of the Republic of Latvia.
