Presentation of the textbook - "Communication and Crisis Situations Management in the Temporary Detention Isolators" - on the topic of relations with vulnerable groups in the penitentiary system was held at the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The event was opened by the welcoming speech of the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Mrs. Natia Mezvrishvili.
The textbook prepared by the psychologists of the Academy includes the most common signs of mental disorder in the penitentiary system and relevant risks, suicide risk factors and practical recommendations oriented on prevention, the basic principles of relations with various vulnerable groups, the penitentiary stress and peculiarities of communication with juveniles under the stress influence, as well as of psychological assistance in crisis situations and TDI employees self-assistance oriented strategy and standards.
The purpose of the textbook is to provide employees of the penitentiary system and specialists employed in other fields with theoretical knowledge and practical recommendations based on ethic and best practices, which will make their daily activities more effective and fruitful.
The presentation was attended by Mr. Givi Miqanadze, the Rector of the Academy of MIA, Mr. Giorgi Mosiashvili, the Director of the Temporary Detention Isolator, the representatives of the Council of Europe, various ministries, Prosecutor's Office of Georgia, NGOs, Human Rights and Monitoring Main Division and other invited guests. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has elaborated the development plan of the temporary detention isolators, which foresees development of infrastructure, improvement of the video surveillance system and electronic database, improvement of the quality of medical service, food and other conditions, structural reorganization, professional development of the employees and legal base update.
