The Border Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Security Service of the Department of State Security as a result of the joint activities conducted in section of the #3 Border Sector (Gorgadzeti) of the #1 Division (Batumi) detained 8 citizens of Sri Lanka for the attempt of illegal crossing of the state border jointly, in group. The crime committed by them envisages the term of imprisonment from 4 to 5 years.
The investigation found that the defendants, bypassing the border checkpoint, were trying to go from Georgia to the Republic of Turkey by crossing the state border of Georgia illegally, in group.
Investigation is in progress under the article 19-344, part II "a" of the Criminal Code of Georgia on attempted crossing of the state border illegally jointly, in group.
