The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Democratic Republic of Georgia within the framework of the unified ceremonial event on the Liberty Square in Zugdidi.
The Square was divided into 3 functional zones. The locals and the guests of the city had the opportunity to get acquainted with the last 100 years history of Georgia in one of the revived zones. The zone featured the reproductive caf of 1918 where the guests were hosted by Allen Murat, the descendant of Levan Dadiani and Ekaterine Chavchavadze, the last Governor of Samegrelo. In the same area accommodated the newspaper booth - so called "Kiosk", where the visitors could collect the newspaper "Independent Georgia" specially created for this day. The guests were hosted by the local actors in costumes throughout the whole area.
The historical zone featured the museum exhibiting the documents depicting important developments in the country in 1918-1921, as well as in 1991, state attributes, the Independence Act of Georgia, historical documents about Samegrelo and other important exhibits. One part of the museum was dedicated to the reform of the modern Ministry of Internal Affairs, where the guests could get familiarized with the innovations and reforms introduced to the Human Rights Department, Patrol Police Department and the "112".
The Freedom Square also accommodated the open-air cinema where the short-lived historical film based on archival materials was shown to the guests. Local students, involved in the project of the Ministry of Internal Affairs – “Learn History, Become a Researcher” - made the presentation on historical topics.
In addition, to revive the 100 years of history, the retro photo exhibition was arranged; the exhibition presented the model of the first vehicle, which, according to historical records, was brought to Senaki in 1901. Also, the first police chariot and the rarity car were presented, while the modern vehicle demonstrated the historical transformation.
The second functional zone was dedicated to the exhibition of the equipment, where the Ministry of Internal Affairs presented new patrol hybrid cars, motorbikes, segway, armored vehicles of the Special Tasks Department- “Cobra", “MGELI” (“Wolf”) and “Defender” – the land and marine equipment of the Border Police.
As for the third functional zone, the Ministry of Internal Affairs offered a variety of cognitive and entertaining activities to the guests: simulated examination ground for driving license, interesting games for children and a virtual shooting range, where citizens were able to get the role of a policeman with the help of the instructor.
The event also included the Awards Ceremony – The "112" gave symbolic prizes to the people who showed high civic responsibility and saved people's lives during emergencies. The Security Police awarded the individuals who found the digits hidden in advance in Zugdidi within the frames of the PR campaign and formed the digit “100”.
The Freedom Square also exhibited the Industrial Park exposition, where the presentation and exhibition-sale of local startups were organized.
In the frames of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the First Democratic Republic of Georgia, a concert was organized with participation of Georgian singers: Nato Metonidze, Ani Kekua, Robi Kukhianidze, Elene Pochkhua, Megi Gogitidze, Keti Orjonikidze, Rusa Morchiladze, etc.
The culmination of the Independence Day in Zugdidi, like in the other cities of Georgia, began at 17:10, just at the time when Noe Zhordania declared Georgia's independence 100 years ago: local ensemble "Odoya" performed Georgian anthem, children released helium bubbles in the sky and the color “candies” were thrown out of the air balloon.
