Emergency Situations Management Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs hosted a one-week multinational field exercise focused on different types of emergency situations.
The exercises were carried out within the "PPRD East 3" program of prevention, preparedness and response to natural and man-made disasters of the Eastern Partnership countries and included both headquarters and field activity components.
Within the framework of multinational training, firefighters from Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Moldova took part in demonstration training.
The exercise was attended by the Deputy Ministers of Internal Affairs - Ioseb Chelidze and Giorgi Butkhuzi, Head of the Emergency Situations Management Service, Teimuraz Mghebrishvili, representatives of various departments of the agency, as well as the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Armenia, delegations of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan and the Emergency Situations Management Service of Moldova, Ukraine and Representation of the Italian Red Cross, Permanent Coordinator of the United Nations and members of the EU delegation.
The training was carried out according to a scenario as close as possible to real life situation and included various types of fire-rescue operations, operations during large-scale forest fires, chemical, biological, radiation and nuclear incident response exercises, etc.
During the field exercises, the procedures that are carried out by the host country in the case of attracting assistance from partner countries during large-scale emergency situations were discussed. The coordinated actions of relevant agencies during large-scale disasters were inspected.
Patrol police, border police personnel and equipment, emergency situation coordination and urgent assistance center doctors, National Guard, National Forestry Agency and National Environment Agency were involved in the training. The EU delegation, the CBRN National Center and the Italian Red Cross also participated in the exercise.
More than 400 emergency response team members from Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Moldova participated in the field exercises. Teams from Ukraine, Italy, Sweden and the EU Civilian Security Mechanism were involved in the exercise.
PPRD is a technical expert assistance project of the European Union, the main goal of which is to increase the level of prevention, response and preparedness on emergency situations caused by natural and/or human factors in Eastern Partnership countries. In the PPRD project, along with Georgia, the main beneficiary countries are Ukraine, Moldova, Azerbaijan and Armenia.
