The officers of the Division Combating Trafficking and Illegal Migration of the Main Division Combatting Organized Crime of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in cooperation with the Chief Prosecutor's Office, as a result of joint investigative actions conducted on the basis of operative information detained L.G (date of birth: 1962) in Marneuli on the basis of the decision of judge for charges of human trafficking. The crime committed by him envisages the term of imprisonment from 12 to 15 years.
The investigation established that L.G was busy with systematic trafficking in human beings; in particular, the defendant used to deceive the girls of different ages to recruit them, made them live in a hotel type facility in Marneuli and sexually exploited them through threatening and mental and physical coercion.
Investigation is in progress on the fact of trafficking in human beings against two or more persons, the crime envisaged by the sub-paragraph "b" of the article 1431 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
It should be noted that the process of investigation and solving the above-mentioned crime was participated by the officers and the employees of the Central Criminal Police Department of the MIA and the prosecutor's office, who attended the courses on the fight against trafficking in Budapest (ILEA), Hungary on the invitation of the US State Department's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) and the Office of Criminal Investigation Abroad of Diplomatic Security (DS/OCI) in April, this year.
The aim of the training was to develop the capacity of law enforcers to monitor and combat trafficking. The course included the latest guidelines on trafficking, policy, the latest development issues of legislation, the techniques of identification of victims, as well as the methods of working with victims and bringing the criminals to the criminal responsibility. The course was led by the experts from the US Department of Homeland Security.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has a long, intensive and fruitful cooperation with the US Embassy in Georgia. As a result of this cooperation number of organized crimes has been solved. Cooperation in this field will continue in the future as well.
