The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia continues rehabilitation of temporary detention isolators in order to ensure high standards for protection of detainees' rights.
Mr. Giorgi Mosashvili, the Director of the Temporary Detention Department inspected the renovated temporary detention isolator in Akhalkalaki.
The rehabilitated isolator fully complies with the standards of the European Committee for Torture Prevention. The recommendations of the Public Defender of Georgia were taken into account in the process of renovation of the building and infrastructure.
The temporary detention isolator of Akhalkalaki is completely repaired and equipped with modern inventory. The wooden stages designed for the individuals accommodated in the isolator are replaced with new iron, individual beds that meet international standards.
There investigative and identifying rooms, walk yard for the detainees, shower and toilet rooms are arranged in the temporary detention isolator.
By the end of 2018, repair works will be conducted in several temporary detention isolators and special rooms for medical service will be arranged.
