As a result of joint operational measures and investigative actions 5 people were detained on judge’s ruling by the employees of Guria Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and employees of Regional Prosecutor’s Office of Ozurgeti, in Tbilisi, Ozurgeti and Ureki for being in contact with “world of thieves”.
G.Kh., born in 1991, nicknamed "Khoshto", and E.B., born in 1981, nicknamed "Edo", who has been convicted many times in the past, have been arrested for being members of “world of thieves”.
L.R., born in 2000, previously convicted, has been arrested on the charge of supporting the activities of “world of thieves”.
For the fact of "appealing to a member of the world of thieves”: K.B., born in 1977, and V.Ch., born in 1983 who has been convicted many times in the past, have been arrested.
M.Kh., born in 1984 and convicted many times in the past, was charged with "membership in the world of thieves” in a penitentiary.
Crimes committed envision imprisonments up to 10 years.
An intensive investigation, including undercover investigative actions carried out over several months based on a judge's ruling, revealed that the detainees were participating in the activities of the “world of thieves”, were connected to the so-called "thieves in law" and were carrying out their tasks.
In particular, they carried out activities of the “world of thieves” in the Guria region, in the town of Ureki and the village of Tskaltsminda, Ozurgeti municipality, with the aim of gaining power and authority through "thieves' quarrels", intimidation, threats, use of their own criminal influence, and illegal actions, as well as obtaining personal and other people's benefits.
Police, as a result of searching the defendants' personal and residential homes, seized mobile phones and narcotics as evidence.
An investigation is ongoing into the criminal case under Article 223 Prima, Part 1, Article 223 Tertia, Part 2, and Article 223 Quarta, Part 1, of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
