Briefing of the head of the Main Division for the Fight against Organized Crime under the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs – Giorgi Liluashvili
Officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs along with General Prosecutor’s Office, as a result of complex special operative activities detained 4 individuals for membership of the “Thieves World” and contacting members of the “Thieves World”.
Based on the relevant Court decision, officers of the Central Criminal Police Department detained: previously convicted L.G. (DoB 1988) previously convicted G.D. (DoB 1991) previously convicted G.D. (DoB 1986) and also previously convicted G.M. (DoB 1977).
G.M. is accused of contacting members of the “Thieves World” while L.G. A.D. and G.D. are accused of the membership of the “Thieves World”.
The committed crime envisages from 3 to 10 years of imprisonment.
Investigation established that one of the detainees, in order to solve the financial disagreement, contacted members of the “Thieves World” and involved Georgian “Thief in Law” –T.Tch. “Thieves in Law” held the criminal skirmish as a result of which the dispute was solved in favor of G.M. and therefore opposing side was obliged to pay 45.00 Gel and 6300 US dollars within a month period.
As a result of the constant pressure exercised from the side of the members of the “Thieves World” the obliged side was forced to pay part of the mentioned sum- 4500 GEL and 1800 US dollars.
As a result of the search activities the law enforcers seized computer technic and mobile phones used for communicating with each other and “Thieves in Law” residing outside Georgia.
Investigation is in progress on the fact of membership of the “Thieves World” and contacting members of the “Thieves World”, article 2231 I part, and article 2234 envisaged by the Criminal Code of Georgia.
