Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri and Head of the State Security Service, Grigol Liluashvili along with their Deputies visited Shindisi village in Shida Kartli region and laid a wreath on the grave of 17 heroes fallen in August War 2008.
Family members of the deceased also visited the Heroes Memorial in the village of Shindisi. Vakhtang Gomelauri honored the memory of the fallen heroes and expressed his condolences to their family members.
12 years have passed since the Shindisi battle. On August 11, 2008, 17 Georgian soldiers were killed in a clash with a Russian military unit.
“August of 2008 was the most difficult period for Georgia. We suffered the loss of our friends, brothers and children. Today their parents are standing at their memorial and I can’t even find proper words to condole them. It’s very hard and difficult for them, just like for any other Georgian and I think that these heroes should be the example for the future generations, our children, everyone. We have to do our best to prevent such grave tragedy that we suffered in 2008”- stated Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri.
