The Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri held the meeting with the Special Representative of the Federal Government of Germany for Migration Agreements – Joachim Stamp paying an official visit to Georgia. Deputy Head of the Minister of Internal Affairs - Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, Ambassador of Georgia to Federal Republic of Germany - Levan Izoria, Deputy Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Georgia- Tanya Hut and Head of Office of the German Federal Government Special Commissioner for Migration Agreements – Peter Schmidt also attended the meeting.
During the meeting held in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the parties discussed the issues related to the visa free travel of Georgian citizens to the European Union and the Schengen area. The parties of the meeting furthermore emphasized the political and practical importance of visa free travel in the process of Georgia’s European integration.
Mr. Vakhtang Gomelauri provided detailed information regarding the measures undertaken by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia for successful continuation of Visa Free regime and ongoing reforms.
The Special Representative of the Federal Government of the Republic of Germany for Migration Agreements positively assessed the successful cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and Germany in the field of readmission.
Within the scope of the meeting, parties also discussed the issue of recognizing Georgia as a safe country of origin. Parties also agreed to continue intensive cooperation between the ministries of two counties in different directions.
At the end of the meeting, Vakhtang Gomelauri expressed his gratitude towards Joachim Stamp, for the steady support of the Federal Republic of Germany in Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration.
Within the framework of the visit, the Special Representative of the Federal Government of the Republic of Germany for Migration Agreements will also hold the meetings with the Minister of Justice and the Minister of IDPs from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health and Social Protection of Georgia.
