Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandre Tchikaidze has opened the fifth sub-unit of Rescue-training Division of Emergency Situations Management Department. Construction works of the building started 6 months ago. The building is equipped with contemporary inventory and technic. In the mentioned building work, rest rooms and storage compartments are located. At the mentioned sub-unit eight professional alpinists are employed who received full mountain equipment, uniforms and transport. In order to conduct more effective operations in winter the sub-unit also received snowmobile.
Cases of receiving traumas and missing in the mountains of Kazbegi are frequent. During the recent year, as a result of successful rescue operations, the officers of Rescue response and training Division of MIA Emergency Management Department have saved 87 people in mountainous regions of the country; among them 29 saved people were foreign tourists.
