The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Nino Tsatsiashvili, took part in the concluding event dedicated to the 16-day campaign on violence against women, organized by the Interagency Commission on Gender Equality, Violence against Women and Domestic Violence.
At the online meeting, the agencies presented information about the activities implemented within the frames of campaign. The importance of presenting the report of the Council of Europe Convention on the Prevention and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO) and the Sixth Periodic Report of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) for Georgia was also noted.
Nino Tsatsiashvili spoke about the activities carried out by the Ministry of Internal Affairs within the framework of the 16-day campaign and underlined the tendencies in reporting police on the cases of violence against women and domestic violence, the existing challenges and the undertaken measures under the circumstances of the global pandemic.
The Deputy Minister noted that during the campaign period, the Ministry presented the report to a wide audience on statistics and analysis of child-related marriage offenses, as well as sexual harassment offenses in public places.
Nino Tsatsiashvili made special emphasis on the importance of strengthening the capacity of law enforcement officers as well as implemented and ongoing trainings organized for this purpose, the importance of participating in various interactive meetings aimed at awareness raising.
In the direction of the fight against women and domestic violence, the introduction of electronic surveillance within the frames of the legislative innovation enacted from September 1, 2020, which empowered the police to use electronic bracelets against the offender in case of real threat of recurrence of violence against women and domestic violence - was positively assessed. In order to effectively implement the mentioned regulations in practice, a distance learning course was introduced at the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs as well as online trainings conducted for various target groups.
The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs expressed gratitude towards all partner and donor organizations with which the law enforcement system has made a significant progress in combating violence against women and domestic violence.
