Within the framework of the 16 Day International Campaign against Gender-Based Violence and with the support of Sweden and UN Women, representatives of the Human Rights Protection and Investigation Quality Monitoring Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs held a meeting with the judges and representatives of various authorities to address the mechanisms for combating violence against women and domestic violence.
At the opening the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs - Aleksandre Darakhvelidze and UN Women Country Representative in Georgia - Kaori Ishikawa addressed the participants.
Along with the representatives of the Ministry, judges, prosecutors, representatives of the Special Investigation Service, Agency for State Care and Assistance for the Victims of Human Trafficking, Legal Aid Service and Public Defender's Office also attended the working meeting.
Aleksandre Darakhvelidze emphasized the importance of effectively combating violence against women and domestic violence, while also highlighting the approaches that the Ministry implements against fighting crimes within these categories and protecting victims. Deputy Minister also spoke about the importance and necessity of coordinated efforts for an efficient response to violence.
Throughout the meeting, the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, together with the participants of the meeting, discussed the role and significance of the implementation of restraining order, risk assessment tool, electronic surveillance of the perpetrators, and the relevant issues of their effective use.
UN Women has maintained successful cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs for many years, implementing projects covering various critical areas, including combatting violence against women and domestic violence, promoting gender equality, addressing sexual harassment, etc.
