The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze participated in the 1st Steering Committee of the Council of Europe Project - "Human Rights Comliant Policing in Georgia".
The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs - Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, Deputy Head of the Council of Europe Office in Georgia - Stefan Sirbu, Head of Special Investigation Service - Karlo Katsitadze, Deputy Public Defender - Giorgi Burjanadze and Head of Section 2 of the Cooperation in Police and Deprivation Liberty of the Council of Europe - Donche Boshkovski delivered the opening remarks.
Meeting participants discussed the activities to be implemented in the next 6 months by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and other partner agencies within the project.
Aleksandre Darakhvelidze noted that in cooperation with the Council of Europe, numerous trainings and studies were conducted in the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the officers holding ordinary and managerial positions in territorial and structural units. Deputy Minister highlighted the importance of the projects implemented by the Council of Europe, as well as summarized essential activities and results.
The Deputy Minister thanked the Council of Europe for its support in strengthening the capacity of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed readiness to continue future cooperation.
The project has been carried out in close cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and other partner agencies since 2021. It aims at supporting Georgian authorities in monitoring effective and accountable performance of police duties by strengthening human rights standards.
