At the meeting, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Nino Tsatsiashvili reviewed the experience received by the police from a gender perspective in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Human Rights Protection and Investigation Quality Monitoring Department monitors cases of gender-based violence and domestic violence on a daily basis. Based on the results of the data analysis, the department developed a strategic plan to identify existing problems and challenges. One of the challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic was the threat of increasing cases of domestic violence. Based on the mentioned, Ministry of Internal Affairs, in close cooperation with the Interagency Commission on Gender Equality, Violence against Women and Domestic Violence and relevant non-governmental organizations, has developed a strategy - "Communication Strategy on Domestic and Gender-Based Violence in the COVID-19 Crisis". The mentioned communication strategy was successfully implemented, as a result of which, the population was provided with detailed information on domestic violence and ways to solve it legally,”- stated Nino Tsatsiashvili.
A set of practical guidelines on gender and security was developed in 2020 by the United Nations Women (UN Women), the Geneva Center for Security Sector Management (DCAF) and the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR).
The collection reviews the importance of gender mainstreaming in security sectors, such as: police and law enforcement, border management and gender, intelligence services and gender, justice and gender, places of detention and gender and etc.
