Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Nino Tsatsiashvili attended the opening of the training on legal mechanisms related to sexual harassment and addressed the participants with a speech.
The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs reviewed the role of law enforcement officers in responding to incidents of sexual harassment in public places and the importance of capacity building in this regard.
The trainings are held with the support of the UN Women and “Anti-Violence Network of Georgia” non-governmental organization. Aim of the training is to raise the qualification of the employees of the Tbilisi Subway Division of Tbilisi Main Division under the Patrol Police Department on the issue of administrative proceedings related to sexual harassment and restraining orders. Within the frames of the training module, employees of the Human Rights Protection and Investigation Quality Monitoring Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will train up to 200 patrol - inspectors.
It is notable, that Human Rights and Investigation Quality Monitoring Department has developed a guideline on sexual harassment for police officers to help them identify and respond appropriately to the facts of sexual harassment.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs will actively continue to implement measures aimed at raising the qualification of law enforcers on the above mentioned issues
