The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs - Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, held a meeting with the representatives of the Committee on Equality and Non-Discrimination of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Christophe Lacroix and Giorgio Loddo. Members of the delegations, visiting South Caucasian countries, visited Georgia within the scope of the fact-finding mission. The aim of the visit is to assess activities and achieved results of the state entities in the field of fight against discrimination.
Within the meeting, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze thoroughly informed representatives of the committee about the steps taken by the Ministry during last years on fight against discrimination, hate speech and hate crime, including crimes of intolerance on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity.
Aleksandre Darakhvelidze also emphasized the role of cooperation with the Council of Europe, in the field of capacity building activities for the investigators on the crimes of discrimination. Parties noted that cooperation in this field will be continued in the future.
Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly, positively evaluated activities performed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia on the above-mentioned issues. Members of the Delegation also emphasized the effective measures carried out by the Ministry for ensuring public safety during the event held within the scope of “Tbilisi Pride” week.
