With coordination of the State Security and Crises Management Council, Interagency Commission for Reforming the Ministry of Internal Affairs has held its first working meeting.
Commission for Reforming the Ministry of Internal Affairs was created under the relevant decree of the government. The main purpose of the commission is to prepare the legal and conceptual framework, to ensure separation of then security block from the Interior Ministry and to reinforce democratic control mechanisms over the agencies. According to the draft resolution, State Security and Crises Management Council will coordinate and guide the Commission for Reforming the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which consists of representatives of various government agencies and committee representatives.
It was agreed at the working meeting of Interagency Commission, that in order to reform the Ministry of Internal Affairs and to make the work process more efficient, civil sector, international organizations and diplomatic corps representatives should be more actively involved in the process that will make commission’s activities more democratic and transparent.
It should be outlined that some of the non-governmental organizations have already submitted statements to the State Security and Crises Management Council and expressed eagerness to be involved in the process of reforming the Ministry of Internal Affairs. On today’s meeting the scheme for staffing working groups was elaborated, which was defined according to the plan of future activities for implementing the reform.
As the coordinating body of the reforms committee, State Security and Crises Management Council would like to call on interested persons, civil sector and experts to get more actively involved in the process and remind that March 1 is the deadline for receiving the applications needed for participation in working groups. Application submission process has been in progress already for two months.
