The 6th Joint Commission Meeting between the Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and the Turkish National Police of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Turkey was held within the framework of cooperation determined by the “Agreement between the Government of Georgia and the Government of the Republic of Turkey on Cooperation in the Field of Security” signed in 1994.
Georgian side was represented by Mr. Shalva Kvinikhidze, Director of the International Relations Department, Mr. Ivane Papiashvili, Director of Central Criminal Police Department, Mr. Alexander Arakishvili, Head of the Interpol NCB Tbilisi, Mr. Irakli Chimakadze, Director of the Counter-Terrorism Center and the representatives of the Patrol Police Department.
During the Meeting the Parties discussed the issues on the fight against illicit drug trafficking, human trafficking, terrorism and other forms of organized crime, existing cooperation and challenges as well as border cooperation. The parties signed the Minutes of Meeting, where future cooperation perspectives are envisaged. It is notable that this format of bilateral meetings proved to be a successful tool for addressing issues raised throughout the year. Joint Commission Meetings are held annually, alternately in Georgia and the Republic of Turkey.
