The Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri held an introductory meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to Georgia - Sheraz Gasri. Meeting was also attended by the internal security attache of the French Republic, Olivier Lefebvre.
The Minister congratulated the Ambassador on her appointment and wished success in future activities.
Within the framework of the meeting, the importance of firm and effective cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of two countries was highlighted.
Vakhtang Gomelauri expressed gratitude towards French side for continuous support in the capacity building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia. The Minister also noted that the French Republic is one of the main allies and partners of Georgia on the way to European and Euro-Atlantic Integration.
The parties also emphasized on the political and practical importance of visa-free movement of Georgian citizens in the European Union and the Schengen area, in the process of Georgia's European integration. Vakhtang Gomelauri provided guests with the detailed information on measures and ongoing reforms implemented by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia in order to successfully continue the visa-free travel.
At the end of the meeting, the parties also discussed the perspectives of future cooperation. Vakhtang Gomelauri expressed hope that existing cooperation between the parties will further be enhanced through joint efforts.
