Emergency Situations Management Service under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, with the support of the Turkish Embassy and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), was handed over fire-resistant and fire-rescue uniforms.
The ceremony of handover was held on the territory of the Emergency Situations Management Service. Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs - Ioseb Chelidze, Head of Emergency Situations Management Service - Teimuraz Mgebrishvili, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Georgia - Ali Kaan Orbai attended the event. The guests viewed the special equipment and got familiarized with its characteristics personally.
After the ceremony, a meeting was held between the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, the Head of the Emergency Situations Management Service and the Turkish Ambassador. The parties discussed issues of mutual cooperation. The parties also emphasized the presentation of a special award - "Order of the Highest Dedication" by the President of Turkey to the head of the Georgian rescue team. The Turkish ambassador once again thanked the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia for the rescue mission in Turkey.
In 2018, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Emergency Situations Management Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Disaster and Emergency Management Service (AFAD) of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Turkey, which aims at promoting cooperation in the field of disaster risk management. Since then, the fire-rescue services of the two countries actively cooperate both during emergency situations and in the direction of training of Georgian rescuers. Within the framework of the mentioned cooperation, a number of exercises and re-training programs for Georgian rescuers were carried out in Georgia and Turkey.
