The Head of the MIA Border Police of Georgia, General-Major Zurab Gamezardashvili made an official report about the infrastructural projects carried out in the Border Police of Georgia in 2014. The official ceremony was in attendance of the Prime-Minister of Georgia, Irakli Gharibashvili and the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Aleksandre Tchikaidze. The Prime-Minister Irakli Gharibashvili made a greeting speech. He expressed his gratitude towards the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Aleksandre Tchikaidze, the Head of the MIA Border Police of Georgia, General-Major Zurab Gamezardashvili and Georgian border guards. “The inviolability of the State Borders is highly dependent on professionalism, responsibility and self-sacrifice of each of you”, - declared the Prime-Minister when addressing the border guards. He also expressed his gratitude to the ambassador of the United States to Georgia, Richard Norland for the support of the United States of America to our country. The ceremony was held at the base of the Border Police Special Aviation Main Office. The Head of the Border Agency made an introductory speech, reviewing the renovations of 2014 in the Border Police. The members of the government, the ambassador of the United States to Georgia, Richard Norland and representatives of various diplomatic missions accredited in Georgia attended the ceremony. The banners illustrating old and new photos of the border sectors that had been constructed and inaugurated for the past year were demonstrated at the ceremony. The 8 successful border guards have been awarded with the medal of bravery and medallion of merit by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia. On Georgian-Russian state border three border sectors have been built, while two - have been built on Georgian-Azerbaijan state border. On Georgian-Armenian state border three sectors have been built and one more has been built on Georgian-Turkish state border in 2014. The new building of a Joint Maritime Operations Center at the Coast Guard Supsa Radar Station was built by the US support.
The construction works of the Batumi Boat Basin of the Coast Guard Department of the MIA Border Police of Georgia have started in 2014 and will be over by the next summer. Financed by the United States Defense Threat Reduction Agency, the Batumi Boat Basin is being constructed for the Georgian Coast Guard and is very important for the maritime security of the Black Sea Region.
