The employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs arrested 7 people in Tbilisi, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Kakheti, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti and Imereti as a result of operative-search measures and investigative activities. Police seized illegal firearms and ammunition as evidence.
The committed crime envisions from 3 to 7 years of imprisonment.
Employees of Vake-Saburtalo Police Main Division of Tbilisi Police Department, as a result of operational and investigative actions detained previously convicted I.J. (DoB 1988) in Tbilisi on charges of illegal purchase, storage and carrying of firearms. The police, during the search of the detainee's car conducted on the basis of the judge's decision, seized a pistol, a magazine and 5 cartridges as evidence.
The employees of Gldani-Nadzaladevi police main division of the same department detained previously convicted and currently on probation I.G. (DoB 1985) on charges of illegal purchase and storage of firearms and ammunition. As a result of the search conducted in the apartment of I.G. on the bases of the relevant court decision, the law enforcement officers seized different types of firearms, 90 cartridges and magazines as evidence from the hiding place arranged by the accused.
The employees of Mestia Police Division of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Police Department detained 2 persons with previous convictions on charges of illegal purchase, storage and carrying of firearms and ammunition. The detainees are: J.G. (DoB 1972) and A.T. (DoB 1978). The police, during the personal search of the detainees, seized automatic firearms, 2 magazines and 8 cartridges as evidence.
As a result of the operational and investigative activities carried out by the employees of Oni division of Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti police department, previously convicted M.P., (DoB 1963) was detained for the illegal purchase, storage and carrying of firearms. During his personal search, the police seized an automatic firearm, a magazine and 17 cartridges.
The employees of Tianeti Division of Mtskheta-Mtianeti Police Department, on the fact of illegal purchase and storage of firearms, detained L.C. (DoB 1994) in Tianeti. Law enforcement officers, during the search of the house of the detainee, seized an automatic firearm, a magazine and 22 cartridges.
As for B.B. (DoB1994), with previous convictions and currently on probation, he was arrested on the same charges by the employees of Kvareli Police Division of Kakheti Police Department. During the search of the house of the accused person located in Kvareli municipality, the law enforcement officers seized double-barreled cut gun 1 cartridge and a small-caliber rifle - the so-called "Gecko".
The investigation into the facts of illegal purchase, storage and carrying of firearms and ammunition is being conducted under article 236 III and IV parts of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
