Officers of the Patrol Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Central Criminal Police, Tbilisi, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Kvemo Kartli, Shida Kartli, Imereti, Adjara, Samtskhe-Javakheti Police Departments, as a result of recent operational measures and investigative actions, seized illegal firearms and ammunition and arrested 18 people.
The following persons are detained for the illegal purchase, storage and carrying of firearms and ammunition: N.T., born in 1997, T.L., born in 1976, G.B., born in 1976, B.K., born in 1956, N.G., born in 2004, L.T., born in 2005, L.Ch., born in 1993, G.A., born in 1990, as well as those with previous convictions: A.P., born in 1985, O.K., born in 1995, I.R., born in 1984, I.T., born in 1981, B.Sh., born in 1973. Z.Ch., born in 1993, Z.Gh., born in 1983, L.Ch., born in 1980, N.A., born in 1971, M.T., born in 1984:
The committed crimes envision up to 9 years in prison.
As a result of the personal search of the detainees and search activities held in their residential homes, vehicles and storage facilities, law enforcement officers seized various types of firearms and ammunition as evidence, including: machine guns, pistols, revolvers, hunting rifles, hand grenades, machete, a large number of cartridges, several explosive devices and detonators. The police also seized the narcotic drug "dried marijuana" and a bandsaw installed in violation of the registration rules.
The investigation is underway under Articles 236, 273 and 287 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
