As a result of operational measures and investigative actions carried out together with the Prosecutor General’s Office, officers of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Main Division for Combating Organized Crime, arrested 8 people in Tbilisi, Kvemo Kartli and Samegrelo regions based on a judge’s ruling - 3 people were charged in absentia, including 2 “thieves in law”.
The following individuals are detained on charges of “membership of the Criminal World”, “appealing to a member of the Criminal World” and supporting their activities: G.S., born in 1982, A.Q., born in 1989, V.S., born in 1982 nicknamed “Povera”, born in 1991 G.R., born in 1980 O.M. nicknamed “Gege”, and persons convicted of various serious crimes in the past: M.Ch. born in 1978, B.Sh. born in 1985 and L.Ts. born in 1978.
As for Bachana Nadareishvili, born in 1982, nicknamed “Bacho Tbiliski”, and Manuchar Gasviani, born in 1979, who reside abroad, were charged for being a “thief in Law” and T.R. born in 1978 for “supporting the activities of the criminal world”.
The committed crimes envision up to 15 years in prison.
As a result of intensive undercover investigative actions conducted by law enforcement officers based on a judge's ruling, it was established that the detained members of the "thieves' world" and supporters of the "thieves' world" were involved in resolving financial disputes between citizens for personal gain.
The defendants were in contact with "thieves in law" abroad and organized gatherings in accordance with the so-called thieves' traditions.
The evidence obtained by the investigation also established that the defendants were making decisions in accordance with the so-called thieves' traditions and were imposing payments on one of the disputing parties to the other, as well as in their own favor.
As a result of the personal search and search activities held in residential homes, the police seized computer equipment and mobile phones as evidence, through which they communicated with each other and with "thieves in law" abroad.
The investigation is ongoing under Article 223 (1), Part I, Article 223 (1), Part II, Article 223 (4), Part I, and Article 223 (3), Part II of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
