Under the chairmanship of the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Vladimer Bortsvadze, the third session of the Interagency Coordination Council for Combating Organized Crime was held.
During the session, the representatives of the state agencies of the Coordinating Council, approved the draft strategy 2021-2024 for the fight against organized crime and the action plan for 2021-2022.
The session was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Finance, Special Penitentiary Service, General Prosecutor's Office and State Security Service.
At the meeting, the parties discussed the current situation and challenges in the fight against organized crime, as well as the monitoring report on the implementation of the Action Plan of the National Strategy for Combating Organized Crime 2017-2020 for 2019-2020 and the main directions of future activities.
The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs reviewed the ongoing refvorms within the system and their importance.
"Among the directions of reform, I would like to single out the reform of the criminal police. Sharing and incorporating best practices of different countries is important for the fight against organized crime, as well as for the development of the Ministry on the institutional level. For the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it is especially important to increase the efficiency of the Interagency Coordinating Council for Combating Organized Crime, to strengthen its activities as well as the development of joint activities and fight against organized crime in this format” stated Vladimer Bortsvadze.
The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs expressed his gratitude towards the European Union Delegation and EU-funded project on technical assistance to support the fight against organized crime for the successful coordination and support.
