The mentioned legislative initiative does not imply restriction, or restriction of sales of the right-wheel vehicles or vehicles with the dislocated wheels in the country.
The draft law implies restriction of the registration of those right-wheel vehicles, which will be imported after the date set by the parliament of the country.
According to the legislation import and re-export of the right-wheel vehicles is not restricted in Georgia.
The law will be enacted in 2016 from the certain date which will be set by the Georgian Parliament. Reasonable period will be set in order not to damage neither the car owner, nor the importer of te vehicle.
Researches proved that driving a right-wheel vehicle on the road infrastructure which is aimed for left side movement, contains high risks of the car accidents. For example such risks are critical when overtaking a vehicle with a right-wheel car; when dropping off a passenger; when lights hit the driver moving on the opposite direction and etc.
Number of the right-wheel vehicles is sharply rising in Georgia and approaches the critical poit: analysis of the statistic data show that in the nearest 5-7 years the number of right and left-wheel vehicles will be the same, causing serious problems to the regulation of the traffic movement.
On September 19, 1949 according to Geneva Convention obliges traffic unification to all member countries.
