The Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri, opened a building for the newly established police department in Ambrolauri municipality.
Within the frames of the ongoing criminal police reform in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the new police department was separated from Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti was separated from the police department as an independent unit.
Vakhtang Gomelauri visited the building along with the First Deputy - Shalva Bedoidze, and deputies: Ioseb Chelidze, Giorgi Butkhuzi, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze and other leadership of the Agency. The governor of Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti - Papuna Margvelidze, Majority MP - Gocha Enukidze and Mayor of Ambrolauri Municipality - Zviad Mkheidze also attended the event and viewed the new police building.
Vakhtang Gomelauri also held a meeting with the employees and introduced Levan Darakhvelidze as the director of Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti Police Department. The minister wished him success. Up to date, Levan Darakhvelidze held the position of deputy director of Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti police department.
The purpose of creating Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti Police Department is to make police activities, including crime prevention, maintaining the rule of law, and safety in the region even more effective, and improve the quality of police services for citizens.
As a result of the establishing Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti Police Department, up to 130 police officers will be added to the region. The law enforcement officers employed on the spot will serve the residents of 4 municipalities.
The new police building was built according to modern standards and is equipped with the latest technic.
One of the main priorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is the renewal of the police infrastructure, within the framework of which, a number of new police buildings have been opened across Georgia in recent years with the aim of improving the working environment of police officers and provide effective police services to citizens.
