Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili participated in the Meeting of Minister of Internal Affairs and Justice of the European Union and Eastern Partnership countries held in Tallinn.
At the Ministerial parties discussed the reforms in the field of law enforcement, the fight against cybercrime, migration and border management issues.
The meeting was opened by Estonian Minister of Interior Andrs Anvelt. Estonian Interior Minister in his speech emphasized the fact that after the visa liberalization of Georgia and Ukraine, Eastern Partnership countries moved to a completely new level of cooperation with the European Union.
European Commissioner for Migration, Homeland Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos said that achieving free visa regime with the EU countries is a result of the deliberate work of Georgia and Ukraine.
Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili delivered a speech at the Ministerial: "As you know, European and Euro-Atlantic integration is the main priority of the Georgian government's foreign policy. Herewith, fulfillment of commitments undertaken within the framework of the existing cooperation and expanding cooperation spheres is a long-term strategic goal of our foreign policy. The launch of visa free regime with the Schengen space countries is a great achievement for us as well as a great challenge. The Georgian side is fully responsible for the trust announced by the European Union. We also realize what it means to be a reliable partner country for the European side. "said the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
In his speech George Mgebrishvili underlined the National Action Strategy of the 2017-2020 for Combating Organized Crime which includes fight with cybercrime. Minister of Internal Affairs highly appraised the police cooperation project held within the frames of the eastern partnership against the World Challenge - the fight against cybercrime and noted that the law enforcement agencies will continue to actively participate in the projects led by EU and eastern partnership format.
The initiative of the Georgian delegation to hold annual conference on the justice reforms within the scope of the eastern partnership and establishment of the Eastern Partnership Regional Network dealing with legal cooperation in the civil and commercial spheres was positively assessed at the Ministerial.
Meeting of the Ministers of Justice and Internal Affairs of the EU Member States and Eastern Partnership countries was held for the fourth time. First ministerial was held in Luxemburg in 2013.
