Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili held meeting with the ambassador of the Turkish Republic Zeki Levent Gumrukcu.
At the meeting sides discussed close and productive cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of Georgia and Turkey in the field of the fight against international organized crime, which is being implemented on the basis of the agreement in the police sphere concluded between the two countries.
As it was stated by the Minister there is an effective mechanism for the cooperation of the Turkish and Georgian law enforcement bodies, as well as joint commission founded on the basis of the “Agreement between Georgian and Turkish governments on Cooperation in the field of Security”. The commission meets annually to discuss issues connected to organized crime, illegal circulation of drugs, human trafficking, terrorism and other major crimes.
At the meeting the fruitful cooperation of the Georgian police attache in Turkey was outlined, providing fast and efficient cooperation with Turkish law enforcement agencies. Minister Mgebrishvili expressed his hope that Turkish Ministry of Interior will appoint new police attache in Georgia in the nearest future, to contribute the successful cooperation of the two countries.
Minister of Internal Affairs acquainted the ambassador with the implemented and scheduled reforms. According to Giorgi Mgebrishvili, Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has made an important step forward in the sphere of international police cooperation development on the legislative and institutional level, which has been positively assessed by the European Commission.
At the meeting Minister Mgebrishvili has expressed deepest sorrow over the terrorist attacks that took place in the Turkish Republic and stated that Georgia fully supports Turkish people in the fight against violence and terrorism.
