Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia met his Romanian colleague Mr. Petre Toba during his official visit to Bucharest.
The parties reviewed the existing and future cooperation plans between two countries’ law enforcement agencies.
Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili thanked Mr. Petre Toba for the strong support to Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as the country’s Euro-Atlantic process integration.
The Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia emphasized the great significance of cooperation with the Romanian colleagues. Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili also mentioned the examples of successful cooperation and sharing of the experience between the Ministries of two countries, including the creation of the Migration Department in the MIA of Georgia. “We are ready to deepen our relations at all levels. I do hope we can jointly tackle all the challenges we face” – Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili mentioned.
In his turn, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Romania reiterated that Romania always was and will be the strong partner of Georgia. Mr. Petre Toba demonstrated the full support in the reforms planned within the agency and the MIA of Georgia.
The Minister of Internal Affairs of Romani paid attention to the great steps made by Georgia towards Europe. Mr. Petre Toba emphasized that among the EU states Romania was the first country which ratified the Georgia EU Association Agreement.
At the meeting the Minister of Internal Affairs of Romania talked about the importance of strengthening the security in the Black Sea basin countries and further development of the existing successful cooperation between the Border Polices.
Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili and Mr. Petre Toba signed the Joint Declaration for “Cooperation in the Field of European Aspiration between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Romania”. The declaration represents the foundation for the development of bilateral cooperation between the two countries and offers the additional tools to Georgian party for sharing Romanian experience in implementation of the EU standards in the law enforcement field.
After the signature ceremony the Ministries of Internal Affairs of two countries held joint briefing for journalists.
