Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili held meeting with the Ambassador of Japan to Georgia-Tadaharu Uehara.
At the meeting sides discussed issues of cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of the two countries.
Minister of Internal Affairs familiarized the guest with ongoing and planned reforms of the agency.
Giorgi Mgebrishvili expressed his gratitude to Tadaharu Uehara and Japan for contributing to the capacity building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in safety and emergency situations management fields.
Ambassador of Japan and police attache of Japan-Hirouki Tani have also visited Joint Operations Center. Guests were familiarized with the goals of the center and its functions; they also got acquainted with the large-scale-“Safe City, Safe Region, Safe Country” project, which implies the creation of video monitoring system across the country and the use of modern technologies in police activities.
The Japanese Ambassador has expressed great interest towards the Surveillance System with face recognition function, which was established in the Joint Operations Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in cooperation with the famous Japanese transnational company - NEC Corporation in June of the current year. The system uses real-time video-recognition software - NeoFace Watch, which is distinguished with its accuracy. The program compares pictures depicted by cameras to the mugshots stored in the system, allowing quick and correct identification of individuals.
At the end of the meeting, representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia handed the symbolic gifts to Japanese guests.
