Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs, Giorgi Gakharia held meeting with Head of the European Union delegation to Georgia, Janos Herman.
At the meeting sides discussed the existing formats of cooperation between Georgia and the European Union as well as topical issues related to the implementation of the Visa Liberalization Action Plan and Association Agreement.
Giorgi Gakharia and Janos Herman have also discussed reforms implemented within the Ministry of Internal affairs and projects scheduled for the future.
“Today, I had the important meeting with the Head of the European Union delegation to Georgia for the first time. We discussed issues related to visa liberalization and requirements that Georgia already complies with. We planned another meeting for the future and further plans of cooperation which can be implemented between EU states and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia. For further enhancement of the plans, we will hold the extended meeting in the nearest future during which specific directions of our cooperation will be defined”, - stated Minister of Internal Affairs.
“We talked a lot about the essence of our cooperation, about the matters which are on the agenda. Just to mention a few, first of, it was about visa liberalization. Sooner, the European commission will issue a report on the first experiences concerning visa liberalization. We have a very positive assessment of the process so far, but there are issues that require attention and one of them, this is an important issue, is the organized crime.
The European Union has already important programs in support of Georgia’s border security, but I think that these programs will not just continue, but they will also have to be adjusted to the changing conditions. We also touched upon the issues related to the functioning of this area of the Georgian administration, the way the European Union can support modernization, changes if there are necessary in this area.
This has been quite a substantial and productive meeting”-stated Head of the European Union delegation to Georgia, Janos Herman.
