Joint exercises were conducted by the patrol boats of the Coast Guard Department of the Border Police of MIA and the vessels of NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 2 (SNMCMG2). The exercise was held under the NATO tactical guidance and included joint naval maneuvers. The vessels demonstrated search and rescue operations in the sea. The personnel of the Border Police of the MIA carried out the boarding operation that aimed at stop and arrest of a violator vessel and check of the passengers.
Joint exercises are participated by vessels consisting of three units of the Coast Guard of the Border Police of MIA and four units of the Tactical Group of the NATO.
The exercise was held within the frames of the port visit of NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 2 (SNMCMG2). Before the beginning of the joint exercises Batumi was visited by the NATO Allied Maritime Command's Chief of Staff, Rear Admiral Giorgio Lazio, who held meeting with the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia Mr.Giorgi Mghebrishvili.
Joint maritime exercises are aimed at raising the level of interoperability and interaction of the vessels of NATO and Coast Guard Department of the Border Police of MIA.
