Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze participated in the working meeting with judges organized by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in order to support the Center for Psychological and Social Services for alleged victims, victims and affected children of sexual violence.
The aim of the meeting was to review the working process of the the Center for Psychological and Social Services, to discuss the results achieved and identified challenges.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs delivered the opening remarks.
As Aleksandre Darakhvelidze noted, the priority for the Ministry of Internal Affairs is to ensure the maximum protection of the rights and interests of juveniles in the justice system. Thus, it is crucial for the Ministry to carry out investigative and procedural activities with the engagement of children victims in a child-friendly environment.
Deputy Minister noted that the environment in the center helps to ensure the protection of principals of the Code of Juvenile Justice and the Code on the Rights of the Child with a high standard at the stage of proceeding.
The meeting participants were also addressed by the President of the Supreme of Georgia, Nino Kadagidze, UNICEF Representative in Georgia, Ghassan Khalil, the Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia to Georgia, Riina Kaljurand, the Deputy Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs, Tamila Barkalaia and the Deputy Head of Human Rights Secretariat of Administration of the Government of Georgia, Eliso Shonia.
At the working meeting, the representatives of the United Nations Children’s Fund and other partner agencies reviewed the challenges identified in the working process of the Center for Psychological and Social Services and discussed the legal and practical aspects of the solutions and agreed on the future cooperation.
