A consultation meeting was held at the Ministry of Internal Affairs with persons with disabilities, their representative organizations and other non-governmental organizations working in this field. The Deputy Minister, Mr. Alexander Darakhvelidze, chaired the meeting.
The purpose of the meeting was to present and discuss the 2021 Action Plan for the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The Action Plan was approved by the order of the Minister of Internal Affairs - Vakhtang Gomelauri, on March 31 of this year.
The meeting held at the initiative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and with the support of the European Union and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), was attended by the UNDP Resident Representative a.i. in - Anna Chernyshova and the Deputy Public Defender of Georgia - Ekaterina Skhiladze, who also addressed the participants of the meeting.
In order to effectively implement the Action Plan, the goals and objectives of the Plan, activities to be implemented and indicators of their implementation were discussed at the meeting. Persons with disabilities and their representative organizations were given the opportunity to submit recommendations and opinions on the Action Plan within the framework of the meeting, in order for the relevant changes to be reflected in the Action Plan later.
It should be noted that the meeting will lay the foundation for the cooperation of a regular nature, on the basis of which an advisory group will be established. The goal of the said group will be to hold permanent and close consultations with the community of people with disabilities on issues within the competence of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as to ensure their substantial involvement in the development and implementation of future action plans.
