Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia along with First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Kakha Sabanadze and top officials of Adjara Regional Police visited the wounded patrol-inspector in Batumi. Vakhtang Gomelauri received the information regarding the health condition of patrol-inspector Otar Tavartkiladze directly from the doctors.
After visiting the wounded police officer, Minister of Internal Affairs met with his partner, Avtandil Mzhavanadze at Adjara Police Department building. Vakhtang Gomelauri expressed his gratitude towards the patrol police officer for the professionalism demonstrated by him during the incident. On December18, a civilian stopped patrol crew members – Otar Tavartkiladze and Avtandil Mzhavanadze in Batumi and stabbed patrol-inspector Otar Tavartkilaze unexpectedly with a cold steel. Partner of the wounded patrol police officer managed to detain the attacker at the scene; during detention the offender inflicted minor injury in leg area to Mzhavanadze as well.
The leadership of Adjara Main Division of the Patrol Police with the assistance of civilians managed to transfer the wounded patrol-inspector to the hospital, where he was urgently operated. As a result of the quick response from the side of police officers, civilians and medical staff, the life of Otar Tavartkiladze is no longer in danger.
Investigation on the fact of the assault perpetrated against police officer is in progress under the article 3531 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
