“The body of one person was found by the rescuers in the river bed today. Herewith, the vehicle chassis was found, which was removed from the river bed and relevant investigative actions are underway” - the head of the Emergency Situations Management Service, Temur Mgebrishvili, stated at the end of the day, in his comments to the journalists while summing up the day.
According to him, the ongoing operation in the disaster zone will be performed on a larger scale from tomorrow.
"Today, as a result of intensive search works, one human body and a human body fragment were detected in the river bed and transferred to the forensic expertise.
Active search operations are still ongoing. Also, a vehicle chassis was found in the river bed, which has already been removed and relevant investigative activities are underway.
Monitoring groups are deployed at all bridges, they also inspect the river bed, and it was the mentioned monitoring group that found the body under the bridge.
From tomorrow morning, we will start the search operation in this direction on a larger scale.
In total, 8 vehicles are presumed as lost. At the same time, we expanded the search area in the epicenter of the disaster itself, herewith, throughout the day, the search operation was actively carried out at the so-called mineral waters location"- noted Temur Mghebrishvili.
In response to the question posed by journalists on the involvement of volunteers, the head of the Emergency Situations Management Service stated that at this stage, there is no need to involve volunteers, and if their involvement becomes necessary, the information from the database of the Emergency Situations Management Service will be used.
According to Temur Mghebrishvili, as a result of the ongoing operational search and investigative actions, they managed to contact a person, considered as lost and is no longer in the list of missing persons.
The search and rescue operation has been in progress in a round the clock regime for the sixth day in Oni municipality.
Police units, fire-rescuers of the Emergency Situations Management Service, K-9 unit experts, border police helicopters, drones and special equipment are involved in the operation held in disaster-affected zone as well as employees of the Ministry of Defense and the Department of Roads under the Ministry of Infrastructure.
19 bodies have been found by rescuers in the disaster zone as a result of the search and rescue operation, and search operations are still underway for 14 missing persons.
