In parallel with 69th UN general assembly at United Nations Headquarters, “CBRN hazards mitigation national action plan: response to the national safety challenges” presentation was held which was organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI). At the event Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia made a presentation on CBRN hazards mitigation national action plan. The delegation of the Ministry was head by the Deputy Minister of Interior Levan Izoria. He addressed participants of the event with a speech and familiarized them with steps jointly made forward by the government of Georgia in terms of improving CBRN security. Participants were also addressed by Permanent Representative of Georgia to the United Nations, Kakha Imnadze, head of United Nations Security Resolution 1544 committee, Director of and United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute and other officials. At the event the progress achieved by the Georgian side in developing CBRN policy was outlined as well as importance of sharing experience with other countries. It is notable that Georgia is the first country in southern Caucasus and Western Europe which adopted national strategy for CBRN hazards and action plan for implementation. Considering the above mentioned the event that took place in New York participation of other countries was coordinated by the Georgian side.
Initiative of elaborating the joint approach to the CBRN hazards belongs to the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili. In order make relevant response to the challenges in the mentioned field, Interagency Coordinating Board against CBRN Hazards was established under the guidance of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, within the frames of which strategy and action plan was elaborated.
Aim of the mentioned plan is to create joint mechanism against the fight with CBRN hazards. The mentioned mechanism will be aimed at exposing and prevention of CBRN hazards as well as at making proper response and reaction. On the basis of the documentation it will be possible to initiate legislative changes, elaboration of relevant standards and capacity building of agencies working in the mentioned field. The mentioned event was attended by the permanent representatives of the UN member states. Representatives of Philippines, Morocco and Cambodia also reviewed their national action plans at the meeting.
